Direct broadcasting experiments with OTS: Results of sound transmission tests

Tests carried out with the broadcasting of a multiplex of independent analog subcarriers (instead of television signals) and with a digital modulated subcarrier in order to provide high quality sound channels, are reported. Objective and subjective simulations of operating conditions indicate that sound associated with pictures can be transmitted with quality equal to that of terrestrial links. Analog frequency modulated sound carriers are best when transmitting only one sound channel, digital for more than two, and either for exactly two.
