Packet-switched data communication over a multibeam satellite with on-board processing
Abstract
A multiple access scheme which combines reservation and random access features for packet-switched data communication over a multi-spot beam satellite with on-board processing is described and analyzed. The reservation mode is similar to the list scheduling algorithm of Stern. Numerical results obtained analytically and by computer simulation show that the incorporation of a random access mode significantly decreases the average packet delay, particularly at low and medium throughput rates.
