NAVPAC SST data processing-mathematical description
Abstract
The Navigation Package (NAVPAC) is a satellite-borne data collection system consisting of two sensor subsystems: a receiver/data subsystem capable of tracking up to three Navy Navigation Satellites (NAVSATs) simultaneously and recording Doppler, refraction, and timing information and a miniature electrostatic accelerometer capable of measuring accelerations due to atmospheric drag, winds, and orbit adjust thrusts. This report provides a detailed mathematical description of the NAVPAC satellite-to-satellite tracking (SST) data processing procedures that include preprocessing, preliminary data quality evaluation, and orbit determination. Also included is an overview of the hardware operation required for the correct interpretation of the SST Doppler, refraction and timing data.
