Status and future planning regarding new telecommunication services in Europe
Abstract
It is pointed out that optimally developed networks provide the basis for all telecommunication services. Telephone networks are considered along with data networks and wide-band networks. A standard channel providing transmission rates of 64 Kbit/s is to be used for future digital networks. The employment of satellites for European communication applications is considered, taking into account digital tests conducted with the Orbital Test Satellite, and the use of the European Communication Satellite, and additional utilization procedures employed for achieving economical satellite operations. Aspects of data transmission in Europe are examined, giving attention to the 'value added networks' and the user classes of service. A description of the services offered in Europe is also provided.
