Multi-ring basins: Formation and evolution; Proceedings of the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference, Houston, TX, November 10-12, 1980
Abstract
The topics discussed are the planetary record, impactors and the terrestrial record, and the theory of formation. Papers are presented on the nature and origin of basin-forming projectiles, the lunar Procellarum basin, possible terrestrial analogs of Valhalla and other ripple-ring basins, and a Z-model analysis of impact cratering. Consideration is also given to the atmospheric breakup of terrestrial impactors, to the chemical rings of lunar basins from orbital X-ray data, to a qualitative model for the excavation stage of basin formation, and to the application of ring tectonic theory to Mercury and other solar system bodies.
