UV preionized TE lasers
Abstract
The present investigation is mainly concerned with the use of surface corona discharges for the UV preionization stabilization of TE lasers. Attention is given to the discharge stabilization concepts and the application of the considered techniques to lasers. The lasers include ultraminiature N2 lasers, CO2 waveguide lasers, and a travelling wave N2 laser. Advantages related to the employment of the considered concepts have led to the development of very compact high-pressure devices and travelling-wave systems. The concepts are scalable to discharge apertures of at least 40 square centimeters.
