Illuminating Stars of Reflection Nebulae Observed by ANS TDTD-1
Abstract
We propose to observe the central stars in ten reflection nebulae with the purpose of obtaining measurements of the ultraviolet flux distributions of the stars without nebular contamination. The same objects have previously been observed by TD-1 with a 12x17 aperture and by ANS with a 2!5x2!5 aperture, thus including nebular flux to a different degree. By reducing all three series of measurements to the same flux scale and by substracting the IUE fluxes from those measured by TD-1 and ANS, we anticipate deriving the nebular fluxes themselves. The method developed by Witt and Cottrell (1980) designed to yield information on the basic parameters describing the surface brightness distribution of the nebulae, log (S/F)100" and p, will then be applied to the data. Ground-based observations of the same nebulae are planned to provide values of these two
