Design considerations for a multiport multitest machine
Abstract
A taxonomy of multiport systems is provided, together with a discussion of the possible benefits and drawbacks. A discussion of implementation problems, concentrating on deadlock, is also included. A solution to the deadlock problem is presented, as is a brief discussion of other problems. The feasibility of multiport multitest architecture is established. It is noted, however, that several problems need to be resolved. An early evaluation must be made of the benefits gained from this approach; these must then be weighed against the negative effects in a clear, logical fashion. An analysis of deadlock as it pertains to switching paths must be conducted in order to use this system to its full potential. Issues of reliability must be analyzed in the light of single port failures.
