CCD implementation of a matrix manipulator processor
Abstract
It is noted that a correlator which uses a combination of CCDs and digital shift registers for the multiplication of a variable vector by a matrix with constant elements can be easily extended to the multiplication of two matrices with variable elements. A number of configurations based on the programmable correlator are presented. A comparison is made between processing time and required hardware for these configurations. The serial-parallel configuration is found to be the most advantageous. Matrix inversion is shown to be practicable using the same type of device, but only for low-order matrices.
