Design and characteristics of the CS-2 on-board communication equipment engineering models
Abstract
The antenna beam is shaped so that the K-band beams effectively cover the main island of Japan, with high gains toward the large cities. The C-band beams cover the entire Japanese territory. The transponder system consists of six K-band transponders, two C-band transponders, two K-band beacon transmitters, two voltage converters, and a transponder control unit. To ensure high reliability, several components have redundant components: the C-band receiver, the C-band TWTA, the K-band receivers, the beacon transmitter, and the voltage converter. A block diagram of the communication equipment system is included, as is a table summarizing the performance of the CS-2 transponders. The performance tests carried out on the antenna are described.
