The optoelectronic switch matrix for on-board SS/TDMA applications
Abstract
Isolation greater than 60 dB over bandwidths up to 3 GHz are features of optoelectronic switches. Optoelectronic switching matrices are thus an alternative to conventional methods of microwave switching for SS/TDMA. The principles of optoelectronic switching are reviewed, and the performance of several recently described optoelectronic switches is given, including a new FET-optoelectronic switch of particular promise. Switching matrices developed for satellites using conventional techniques are compared with optoelectronic switches, and some future prospects are briefly considered.
