MMSE equalization of interference on fading diversity channels
Abstract
A procedure for calculating bit-error-rate statistics for an MMSE (minimum mean square error) processor in a fading diversity digital transmission system with interference sources is presented. The procedure includes the effects of both near synchronous and incoherent interference sources, and allows for signal enhancement resulting from implicit diversity and the penalty due to multipath induced intersymbol interference effects. The method of calculation requires the determination of a set of eigenvalues from the product of a channel covariance and noise covariance matrix. An example is presented which shows that the delay distortion effect can be compensated by only a small number of equalizer taps.
