A wideband UHF circular array
Abstract
The paper describes the design of an experimental circular array operating in the 200-400MHz band. It employs 16 directional elements consisting of broad-band dipoles mounted in front of reflectors. The array is fed from a Butler matrix network capable of exciting 16 spatial phase modes which represent Fourier harmonics of the far field pattern. Experimental results are presented for various phase modes and for patterns which provide omnidirectional coverage plus a single directional null which may be electronically steered in azimuth.
