Measurements of circularly-polarised transmissions from the OTS and SIRIO satellites in the 11 GHz band
Abstract
It is found, on the basis of SIRIO and OTS satellite transmissions, that the Slough area of the U.K. may provide a useful site for a space-earth links station for operation near 12 GHz. The OTS data are especially relevant, since they refer to the most severe attenuation characteristics measured at the site. Systems with fade margins of about 7 dB could lose reception for up to 30 min/year, due to approximately five individual events lasting up to 10 min. This behavior is especially likely in the summer months.
