Theoretical investigation of a 10 microns free-electron laser amplifier using a 50-MeV multi-KA electron beam
Abstract
Theoretical calculations describing the application of an electron beam of 50 MeV energy and several kA current to a free electron laser (FEL) experiment at 10.6 micrometer signal wavelength. The device is a single pass, high gain amplifier utilizing a planar wiggler with field strength B sub w decreasing with distance down the device. The critical role of beam emittance in determining the required input laser energy and gain of the amplifier is discussed.
