PROPHET - An emerging HF prediction technology
Abstract
PROPHET technological growth in capability which has led to permutations from military specification minicomputers to hand-held calculators is discussed. The PROPHET real-time HF propagation forecasting concept is also assessed for its future role in HF communications, surveillance, and signal exploitation. The original system was based on five simple algorithms, while the newest system features over 15 HF prediction and assessment models. The system provides point-to-point propagation assessments which reflect the real-time state of solar and ionospheric conditions, and future application objectives include continuing a viable development program to improve prediction timeliness and accuracy.
