Finite element methods in fluid mechanics
Abstract
Recent developments in the application of finite element methods to problems in fluid mechanics are discussed, and the mathematical bases of these developments are examined. Particular attention is given to finite element methods for the conduction-convection equations, including second-order elliptical problems, and for the steady Navier-Stokes equations, which include velocity-pressure and incompressible formulations. Various recent methods for the numerical investigation of unsteady convection are also treated, including the Lagrange-projection methods.
