Digital speech interpolation with nearly instantaneous companding or ADPCM
Abstract
Efficient encoding algorithms are becoming increasingly attractive for satellite transmission as their performance is improved. Two techniques, nearly instantaneous companding (NIC) and adaptive differential pulse code modulation (ADPCM), will be described for use in a digital speech interpolation application. The unique features of both are highlighted, particularly with respect to the capability of withstanding overload and accommodating VF data transmission.
