ARGOS VHF direct readout mini-station
Abstract
A VHF Direct Readout Mini-Station for the acquisition and processing of data received from ARGOS platforms within a radius of 2000 km was developed. The antenna structure makes it possible to obtain hemispherical coverage with preponderantly circular polarization, and an ellipticity ratio of better than 3dB. The radiation pattern ensures a virtually constant radiation budget irrespective of the angle at which the satellite is seen. Direct satellite experiments demonstrate that data is received satisfactorily as soon as the satellite reaches an angle of elevation of 5 deg. The station is housed in a standard 19" rack 12 units. The stations subassemblies are: receiver, telemetry bit and frame synchronizers, computer and interfaces, supplies.
