VHSIC impact on signal processing architecture
Abstract
The Very High Speed Integrated Circuits (VHSIC) program of the Department of Defense will provide advanced microelectronics components for use in future military signal and data processing applications. An outline is provided of a comprehensive end-to-end systems approach aimed at full exploitation of VHSIC technology. The approach will result in a processor development/support environment which includes modular hardware building blocks and computerized development and support aids. This end-to-end system is expected to offer significantly improved performance and cost effectiveness for future high performance military signal processors. Attention is given to the chip/system architecture, signal processing architectures made possible by the selected approach, and applications software support.
