Study of various system aspects related to the use of Standard-C ship Earth stations in the INMARSAT system
Abstract
Various system aspects related to the use of L-band standard-C ship Earth stations in the INMARSAT system are examined including propagation, modulation/coding, and antenna design. A time domain simulation model for the L-band satellite-to-ship multipath channel is developed which has the physical parameters as its inputs, such as SES-to-satellite elevation angle, sea state conditions, SES antenna characteristics (including antenna gain between 0 dBi and 10 dBi, sidelobes, and polarization purity), and ship motion. The model has cumulative probability distribution; power spectral density; and multipath fade duration, depth, and rate as outputs for communications systems design.
