Aeroacoustic and aerodynamic excitation in a pipe network with angular pitting
Abstract
The increase in vibration of gas pipes after a certain flow velocity is exceeded was investigated. Transient aerodynamic phenomena generated by pitted parts were studied by flow visualization in a hydrodynamic tunnel and by hot wire probes and pressure sensors in an air model. Phenomena discovered were simulated in air models to test solutions. Partitioning the angled piping eliminates the problem, which is caused by vortices formed in the dead space of branching pipes.
