Automatic audio signing. Volume 1: Executive summary
Abstract
The automatic highway advisory radio (AHAR), facilitates aural roadside to motorist communications without diverting the motorist from the task of driving. The principal tasks performed were: (1) review of prior and ongoing audio signing systems, (2) development of functional specifications, (3) conceptual design, (4) analysis of conceptual design, and (5) system design. Two approaches are recommended, both utilizing low power transmitters providing a highly localized coverage. One would provide real-time analog audio transmission. The other would provide time-compressed or burst transmission of digital data with speech synthesis being performed at the receiver. A detailed design of an engineering model capable of operating in either the real time or burst mode was completed.
