Contrasts in one-and two-dimensional hydrocode calculation of laser-generated shockwaves in disk targets
Abstract
A model accounting for trends in calculations and regimes of laser intensity and pulse duration where two dimensional effects become significant is described. The one dimensional and two dimensional hydrocode calculations and results on laser driven planar shock waves in disk targets are compared. It is concluded that the model provides physical insight and semiquantitative information on the onset of two dimensional effects in laser shock wave experiments and allows estimation when one dimensional calculations suffice.
