Developments in high-power lasers and their applications
Abstract
After an article covering the variety and basic principles of high-energy lasers, consideration is given to laser-fusion and laser-plasma interactions, high-power, short-pulse CO2 laser systems for inertial-confinement fusion with attention to electron beam-controlled laser amplifiers and amplifier molecular kinetics, the principles and performance of the iodine laser, the application of high-power tunable lasers to photochemistry and isotope separation, and the photophysical and photochemical properties of gaseous UF6. Also discussed are high-power 16-micron lasers for uranium isotope separation, the principles of high-power chemical lasers, with attention to their modeling, the single particle theory of the free electron laser (FEL), the coherent dynamics of the FEL, and FEL storage ring operation.
