Electron band theory and high pressure equation of state
Abstract
Calculations of the high pressure equation of state of selected materials are reviewed, in order to illustrate general trends which occur in the evolution of electronic structure with compression, and the consequence of these trends for material properties. Elemental solids are reviewed. The manner in which unhybridized energy bands evolve with compression is considered.
