Fusion reactors as high-temperature process heat sources
Abstract
The reasons for interest in fusion process heat sources, the present United States requirements for process heat, and process industry criteria for selection of thermal energy sources are reviewed. Constraints on process heat fusion reactor design, conceptual solutions to design problems, and energy delivery characteristics of present process heat fusion reactor concepts are described. Projections of the time frame and potential for commercialization of fusion process heat sources are presented.
