Optimal design of the lateral feed of a turbomachine
Abstract
A design approach for a feed reservoir in a turbomachine is presented which offers speed and flow homogeneity, and thus maximal installation efficiency. The problem of the quasi-three-dimensional field is considered using the inverse method, by calculating coupled eddy distribution produced by each directional vane, and by deducing vane form distribution. First, flow in the reservoir without vanes is evaluated. Second, the form of the vanes is determined in terms of surface distribution and linear distribution. The method presented can be used to calculate the vanes for a given thickness law, and may be applied to the design of vanes in the case of a compressible flow.
