Contraction of a volume discharge, initiated by ultraviolet radiation in Ar-SF6 mixtures
Abstract
An experimental study is presented concerning the contraction of an atmospheric-pressure volume discharge initiated by UV radiation in Ar-SF6 mixtures, which are excimer-laser active media. It is shown that the high-current diffuse discharge that arises under such conditions has parameters that are close to those of an electron-beam-initiated discharge. Luminescence spectra of the cathode plasma were obtained, and an electron-optic extraction method was used to study the dynamics of the formation of the high-current diffuse discharge.
