Choice of optimal parameters of a waveguide buncher for a high-current relativistic beam
Abstract
Attention is given to the problem of the bunching of a high-current relativistic beam in a waveguide delay system. It is shown that, for high initial beam power, the bunching efficiency is determined not by external HF-fields, but by the intrinsic field, which generates a beam in the waveguide structure. The final stage of the interaction of the beam and the waveguide structure is examined; it is shown that equilibrium is established between the bunched beam and the intrinsic microwave field. In addition, it is shown how an appropriate choice of waveguide geometry can be used to optimize the integral characteristics of the bunched beam.
