The effect of temperature on lasing in methyl-halide compounds under optical pumping
Abstract
A numerical model is presented for temperature effects on the lasing power of the four most intensive laser transitions of CH3F and CH3I molecules under conditions of steady-state optical excitation by a CO2 laser, in order to investigate the possible optimization of the lasing energetics of the thermal state of such systems. It is shown that the nature of the temperature dependence differs substantially not only for the various molecules, but for the different transitions of the same molecule as well. Calculations are presented which make the optimization of lasing energetics of CW submillimeter lasers possible. Some specifics of their lasing mechanism are also presented.
