Gain saturation in a moving active medium
Abstract
A theoretical study is presented of gain saturation in the CO2-N2 mixture of a CO2 gasdynamic laser. The study is based on a simplified model describing the interaction of radiation with the moving active medium of the laser. Formulas are obtained for the power density of the saturating field, and results of the calculation are compared with experimental data on a CO2 GDL. The theoretical relations and experimental gain characteristics that have been obtained can be used to determine the relaxation constants of the medium and the gasdynamic parameters of the flow.
