POMS, a polar meteorological satellite, a contribution for measuring the global radiation balance
Abstract
A concept for a small meteorological satellite was developed, and a study was conducted regarding a mission for measuring the global radiation balance in polar orbits during a period from three to five years. To obtain the defined mission objectives, it will be necessary to solve a number of scientific problems, involving the measurement of solar radiation, the measurement of the radiation which has been reflected and dispersed by terrestrial surface and atmosphere, and the measurement of thermal radiation emitted from the terrestrial surface and the atmosphere. The measurements must also determine the spectral and temporal characteristics of the considered radiation.
