Compensation of amplitude assignment errors in phased arrays by phase adjustment
Abstract
An equation which describes the characteristics of phase assignment is derived, taking into account various cases of application. A computational relation is provided which makes it possible to determine for a given array antenna the phase values for a broadening of the antenna diagram. In the procedure used for a practical application of the relation, the distribution of power over the cross section of the mounted array antennas is determined. The values of the control phase for every desired diagram form are calculated on the basis of measured data. The calculated values are stored in the computing device which is used for controlling the phase shifters. The solutions for the derived equations in the case of given assignments and diagrams can be obtained with the aid of a desk-top computer.
