Calculation of fully developed turbulent flow in a tube with injection and suction
Abstract
A numerical calculation is presented for the turbulent flow of an incompressible fluid in a long, circular tube with uniform injection or suction through porous walls, under hydrodynamic stabilization conditions. The influence of the transverse mass flow on the fluctuation flow characteristics is determined by using the turbulent energy balance equation. The calculation may be applied to the study of transpiration cooling systems for thermally stressed surfaces in high-temperature power equipment, where suction is used as a technique for increasing heat transfer.
