The possibility of soft X-ray emission from shocks in Cepheids
Abstract
The possibility of soft X-ray emission from shocks in Cepheids is investigated. The physical parameters of several RR Lyrae stars with especially high shock velocities are presented, and the estimated soft X-ray intensity is discussed. Results show that the soft X-ray flux from the postshock region in the atmosphere of RR Lyrae should exceed 10 to the 30th erg/sec in the 80-100 A wavelength band, 10 to the 32nd erg/sec in the 80-200 A band, and should last approximately 100 sec.
