Magnetic sensors of new materials
Abstract
Research and development of sensors based on the principle of changes in inductance or in flux distribution in a coil system, on elastomagnetic or magnetostrictive principles, on the d.c. field magnetic biasing principle, on the principle of discontinuous magnetization reversal, on galvanomagnetic principles, and of temperature sensitive sensors, are reviewed. Consideration is given to sensors which are based on favorable combinations of the new metallic materials group, to those that utilize rapid magnetic switching mechanisms in thin wires and strips of special materials and material combinations, and those that contain extremely stable permanent magnets based on cobalt-rare earth alloys.
