Study of the practicalities of concrete for OTEC (Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion) and other marine applications
Abstract
A contractor was asked to prepare a design information report on the general aspects of the use of concrete in offshore structures, with particular application to OTEC. In this report, concrete as a material for marine construction was reviewed and the practicalities of constructing large marine structures as well as outlining our proposals for a lightweight concrete cold water pipe. The great majority of the work presented in this document is the result of research into and development of offshore structures and experience of planning and executing marine constructions. As such, the study is based firmly on reality rather than conjecture.
