Mean wave drift forces: Theory and experiment
Abstract
A computer program based on linear wave diffraction theory used to compute first-order wave forces was extended to compute mean and slowly varying components of the second order wave force. The underlying theory and experimental validation of the new program are described. Comparisons with published data and with other prediction formula currently in use are made. Theoretical and experimental forces are found to agree excellently in regular wave conditions, but slightly less well in irregular seas.
