Fiber optic technology and its role in telecommunication networks
Abstract
Optical transmission bitrates of the order of 100 Mbit/s with regenerator distances up to 50 km can be achieved. Even systems with a few Gbit/s bitrates were designed. In addition to the high capacity, fibers have several other properties that are desirable in signal transmission. The network structures and introduction of services in integrated networks are evaluated.
