Influence of shaft length on pile load capacity in clays
Abstract
It is shown that, for long compressible piles, the load required to cause a head settlement of 10% of the pile diameter may be significantly less than the ultimate load capacity. A dimensionless solution is provided to enable rapid estimation of the combined effects of length and compressibility on the practical load capacity of a pile.
