Meteorological and hydrological aspects of siting and operation of nuclear power plants. Volume 2: Hydrological aspects
Abstract
Problems encountered in planning, designing, operating and decommissioning nuclear power plants (NPP's) are discussed with emphasis on the role of water under normal operation and accident conditions is explained. The purpose and scope of hydrological and water resource investigations required for the solution of the problems are discussed. References to available investigation techniques are given. The problem of ensuring the required water supply is analyzed for both normal and emergency conditions. Protection against flooding is stressed. Problems of water quality management are examined in relation to thermal pollution and radioactive water borne effluents and radioactive substances that may indirectly reach bodies of water.
