Study on highly shaped beam antennas for low orbiting satellite. Volume 2: Executive summary
Abstract
The design and development of an antenna generating a highly shaped beam suitable for providing Earth coverage from a low orbiting satellite are summarized. A software package was evolved for the analysis and synthesis of shaped beam antennas. Alternative antenna configurations were studied. The effect of scattering from the satellite body was investigated analytically. A breadboard antenna which takes into account the effect of secondary scattering from the feed and support struts was designed. Tests on a feed horn and the assembled breadboard antenna included the installation of a simple model of the satellite body on the range in order to provide data for comparison with the analytical predictions.
