Laser cutting shapes in plastics
Abstract
A 1000 W CO2 laser is a versatile, reliable machine tool for processing a wide range of materials. Over 60 production parts fabricated with laser processing operations are described. Materials processed included high strength, reinforced plastics, thermoplastics, rubber, ceramic, and reinforcing cloth. Other development activities include glass to glass sealing, photoresist removal, Kapton insulation removal, metal working, rubber cutting, and ceramic marking. Laser processing variables and tooling concepts are described.
