Abstract
Papers on communication technology in laser systems are presented, including deep space optical communication via relay satellite and a GaAs laser beacon for satellite communications. Attention is given to alignment, stabilization, and calibration techniques such as the faint object camera and precision distance measurements in and between satellites. Control technology in laser systems is discussed, such as a precision optical encoder, the control of cryogenic Fourier transform spectrometer scanning mirrors, the stability of magnetically suspended objects in a vibration environment and a ten-channel vibration sensor.
