A quantitative evaluation of the dependence of SSB signal nonlinear distortion on the shape of the generator tube characteristics
Abstract
An evaluation is made of the amplitudes of spectral components which occur when a standard two-frequency single sideband test signal is amplified in class AB(1), for the cases of two tubes having different plate-grid shape characteristics. It is found that if the lower part of the generator tube characteristic is shortened in order to suppress third-order combination tones (thereby increasing the attenuation of the single sideband signal's nonlinear distortion), measures must be taken for the additional attenuation of the higher-order harmonics and combination tones.
