Some operational characteristics of a magnetron oscillator in the cyclotron resonance mode
Abstract
The paper analyzes the effect of relativistic nonisochronism on electron bunching in a magnetron operating in the cyclotron resonance mode. A numerical trajectory analysis yields an efficiency of the order of 0.25. Optimum conditions of electron kinetic energy extraction have been realized in a magnetron with a collector, where the efficiency attains a value of 0.5. Electron motion in a magnetron with a double synchronous orbital resonance is examined. The positive effect of cyclotron resonance on the first harmonic of the gyrofrequency is shown. Experimental data indicate that maximum efficiency can be obtained in magnetrons where the ratio of operating frequency to cyclotron frequency is close to 0.5.
