Magnetic compression of a relativistic electron beam
Abstract
A theoretical investigation is presented of the transverse compression of a relativistic electron beam by an external solenoidal magnetic field, with allowance for the intrinsic magnetic field of the beam. It is found that, for high-current beams, this compression technique is not very effective, and can be used only for the correction of beam geometry.
