A device for determining the elastic properties and internal friction of metallic materials in the 4.2-1200 K temperature range
Abstract
A device for determining the Young modulus, shear modulus, and the coefficient of internal friction of metals within the temperature range of 4.2-1200 K is described. The device features include piezoelectric transducers connected to an instrument which combines an oscillator for exciting the sample, a signal amplifier for the receiving transducer, a resonance indicator, a frequency meter, a synchronous detector, and an oscillation counter. Sample temperature is measured by iron-copper and Chromel-Alumel thermocouples.
