Sub-Doppler Magnetic Field Resonances in the Resonant Stimulated Electronic Raman Scattering of Multimode Laser Light.
Abstract
Continuous wave lasing without the use of any feedback mirrors is observed when atomic Cesium and Rubidium vapours are optically pumped to their second excited resonance states. The stimulated emission in a number of infrared wavelengths is restricted to a very narrow angle in both the forward and the backward directions. With multimode pumping the gain of this laser shows sub-doppler resonances in the presence of a magnetic field. The possible application of this phenomenon to high resolution spectroscopy is discussed.
